He became a member of the Boston Celtics' coaching staff under Brad Stevens. Turner's primary area of focus was player development.
This was not the first time Evan Turner was a member of one of the league's most historic franchises. He was a player for the Boston Celtics from 2014 to 2016. Turner was well respected in the locker room, among other players, which led to him coming back to Boston as an assistant coach.
How long was Evan Turner an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics?

After the 2021 season, Boston decided to make some changes within the organization. Longtime general manager Danny Ainge stepped down, which led to then head coach Brad Stevens making the jump to the front office.
With a vacancy on their coaching staff, the Celtics brought in Ime Udoka to be Stevens' replacement. While choosing his assistants, he made the decision not to bring back Evan Turner.
Evan Turner open to NBA return
Since being let go by the Boston Celtics, Turner has not been able to land another gig in the NBA just yet. However, he is keeping all of his options open.
During an interview, Turner opened up on what's next for him in his career. It was there that he mentioned the idea of possibly making a return to the hardwood as a player.
“Just waiting for opportunity,” Turner said.
“I think right now, obviously, I have time to make the choice and make the right decision on what I want to do. But definitely something to stay close to the game, whether it is in a front office or even playing again. I’m just keeping all options open right now.”
Before making the decision to become a coach, Turner was a do-it-all-forward in the league. In 705 career games, he posted averages of 9.7 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 0.8 steals.
Turner's most recent stint on a roster came during the 2019-2020 season. He played 19 games for the Atlanta Hawks before being released. Still only 34 years old, the former No. 2 pick should have something left in the tank to offer a team as a veteran.
