Dan Mazzulla, Joe Mazzulla's father was a basketball player and coach

Dan Mazzulla was born in May 1958 in Cranston, Rhode Island. He attended Johnston Senior High School, leading his team to two Suburban Division championships. During his time with the high school team, Dan was one of its best players.

Later on, Joe Mazzulla's father played for the Bryant Bulldogs, where he led the team to two NCAA Division II tournaments in four years. Dan was a great scorer and rebounder, averaging 16.8 points and 8.6 rebounds per game.

Despite being a standout college player, Dan Mazzulla was not selected in the 1980 NBA draft. However, he decided to play professional basketball in Chile for five years.
