Tre Johnson of Lake Highlands is likely in for a big year!

While each team is laser-focused on accomplishing its goals as the NCAA season winds down, the recruiting process never stops in college basketball. One player who has gained the attention of top programs is Tre Johnson.

The Lake Highlands (Dallas) product has risen to No. 1 in the ESPN rankings for the 2024 recruiting class. Last season, he averaged 23.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists while leading the Wildcats to a 32-5 record. The 6-foot-5 guard has further raised the bar with his impressive scoring ability this season.

Where will Tre Johnson land?

As the top recruit in the country, Tre Johnson has his pick of where he wants to play college basketball.

According to 247sports, he has received offers from Kentucky, Baylor, Texas, Duke and Arkansas. ESPN also reports that Miami, Gonzaga, North Carolina, LSU and Duke have also extended scholarships. Arizona, Auburn, Florida State, Kansas and Texas Tech are also in the mix

Johnson has made official visits to Kentucky, Baylor and Texas. The Kentucky coaching staff has been frequent visitors to his games as well.

What sets Johnson apart is his advanced offensive skill set. He is a perfect fit for modern basketball as he is capable of scoring on all three levels and has a range that extends well beyond the three-point range. Johnson is a capable catch-and-shooter while possessing the ability to create on his own. He also is still expected to grow a few more inches.

The biggest area of play he has worked to improve is on the defensive end. Johnson entered the season having already scored 1000+ points on the high school level, but proving he can do it on both sides of the ball raises his ceiling even further. Answering this call has clearly worked as evidenced by his growth in the rankings.

Wherever he lands, there is sure to be a bright future for the Texas native. He is an elite scorer who plays with a chip on his shoulder and is not afraid to let opponents know when he is feeling it. Expect him to bring a huge boost to whichever college lands him, and his recruitment process will be one to monitor.
