Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown is set to miss his second straight game of the season on Monday against the Atlanta Hawks. He is on the Celtics’ injury report with a left hip flexor strain, the team announced Sunday.
The reigning finals MVP played in Boston’s first game of a back-to-back against the Charlotte Hornets on Friday but sat out of Saturday’s contest. He is set to have a second MRI to determine the seriousness of the injury.
While the exact moment of the injury remains unknown, it occurred during a 135-132 overtime loss to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. He ended the game with 25 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Boston coach Joe Mazzulla said that Jaylen Brown is day-to-day for the foreseeable future. Mazzulla also added that the injury had been bothering Brown for some time now, but he was playing through it.
The reigning champions are off to another great start and are second in the East with a 6-1 record. Their only loss came against the Pacers. While they must have surely missed Brown’s services on Saturday, they still got an easy 113-103 win against Charlotte.
Besides Brown, the Celtics will also be without Kristaps Porzingis, who continues to rehabilitate from a left posterior tibialis surgery. Sam Hauser is probable for Monday’s game because of low back injury management.
How has Jaylen Brown fared so far this season?
Jaylen Brown reportedly came into the season with a chip on his shoulders despite being the reigning Eastern Conference finals and NBA Finals MVP. Brown was left out of Team USA’s Olympic squad, and this was something that reportedly didn’t sit well with him.
The three-time All-Star is off to a great start, averaging 25.7 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals in 36.0 minutes per game across six matchups. His season-high was a 30-point outing against the Milwaukee Bucks on Oct. 28, as Boston won the game 119-108.
