Why is Jimmy Butler fined $25000 by NBA? 

On Tuesday night, Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat will look to close out their Eastern Conference finals series with the Boston Celtics. Should the team succeed, they would find themselves back in the NBA finals opposite the Denver Nuggets.

So far, Jimmy Butler and the Heat have been the Cinderella story of the playoffs, with the eighth seed continuing to silence critics and doubters. After picking up a dominant win in Game 3, Jimmy Butler snubbed media members after the game, declining to fulfil his media obligations.

On Tuesday, the NBA PR Twitter account announced that Butler had been fined $25,000 for failing to participate in media availability.

A full statement from the league reads as follows:

"Miami Heat forward Jimmy Butler has been fined $25,000 for violating league rules governing media interview access. It was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

"The fine results from Butler's failure to participate in required media availability following Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals on May 21st."

Ahead of Game 4 tipping off on TNT at 8:30 p.m. ET, Butler likely won't spend much time mulling over the fine.

Jimmy Butler and Miami Heat's run in the NBA Playoffs

Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat have been on one of the most unlikely playoff runs this year. After punching their ticket to the playoffs thanks to the Play-In Tournament, the team shocked the world by defeating the top-seed Milwaukee Bucks.

In the second round, Butler and the Heat met a familiar foe, the New York Knicks, coached by former Chicago Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau. Again, although the Heat were significant underdogs, they left everyone shocked as they picked up a series win to advance to the Conference finals.

With the team now on the verge of eliminating the Boston Celtics, they anxiously await the return of former Sixth Man of the Year, Tyler Herro. Early in the Heat's first-round matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks, Herro went down with a hand injury that required surgery.

At the time, he stated that if Butler and the Heat were able to make it to the finals, he would be able to return to action. Given the Bucks' spot as an eighth-seed, many believed the Heat making the finals was highly unlikely.

Like they have done time and time again, the Heat have proven everyone wrong.

As coach Erik Spoelstra has stated, it's hard to put into words just how impactful Butler has been. After Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, Spoelstra spoke on Butler's impact, saying:

“You can’t quantify it. There’s no analytic to it. Just the feeling of stability in the locker room… There’s just a settling effect that is impossible to quantify.”

With a pivotal Game 4 on tap for Tuesday night, only time will tell whether the Heat's Cinderella story continues in the NBA finals.
