After being suspended since 28 July 2022, BGMI is finally gearing up to make a heroic comeback to the Indian mobile gaming market soon. The developers of the BR title confirmed its return through an announcement post (on 19 May 2023) on the official social media handles of Battlegrounds Mobile India.
However, Krafton surprised the community by taking down the in-game servers of the title just hours before the announcement, effectively restricting players from logging into the game.
As of writing the article on 23 May, the servers continue to remain offline, much to the disappointment of users across the country. Furthermore, Krafton India is yet to announce an official unban date or the time that the servers will come online.
BGMI servers currently offline: Everything you need to know
BGMI users continue to face login errors when they try to play the title. They are now receiving a message prompt from the developers stating that the company is working to provide players with a hassle-free gaming experience with no hiccups in the future.
The message reads:
"Hello BGMI Fan! BGMI servers will be unavailable for a while to come up with a better and bigger experience. While we are working to give you a seamless experience, your account will be safe, and your progress till now will be retained. We will keep you informed of further developments and the release date through our social media platforms."
An additional message pops up on the screen as soon as players click out of the above message. The second message states that the servers are yet to be made available.
It reads:
"Server is not online yet. Please check the official news for information regarding availability. Thank you for your understanding."
Meanwhile, a fortunate turn of events yesterday (22 May) witnessed BGMI made available for download from the Google Play Store. However, those who have downloaded the 2.1 version of the game are also facing the same messages and are unable to play BGMI.
Gamers are recommended to keep an eye on the social media handles of Battlegrounds Mobile India's to get further news about the unban date and the developers' plans to make the servers functional again.
BGMI's initial unban will have a tenure of three months
While Krafton uploaded the unban posts on 19 May, Rajeev Chandrasekhar (GOI's Union Minister) uploaded a tweet highlighting the game will only be unbanned for a trial period of three months. During this period, the MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology) will be keeping a close eye on the title.
Based on the tweet, the government will decide the game's fate based on the criteria like "user harm" and "addiction." It remains to be seen when the servers go online, and Krafton releases the updated variant of Battlegrounds Mobile India. Until then, players will have to keep their fingers crossed and hope for the best.
