There’s plenty to cheer about for Indian battle-royale enthusiasts as BGMI is returning after an absence of almost a year. The popular battle-royale title will be available for three months under strict supervision from the Government of India. After the disappearance of PUBG, Krafton’s BGMI emerged as the most popular battle-royale title in the Indian gaming scene.
However, the much-loved game was banned in July 2022 by the Indian government due to concerns over data breaches and security through game servers. That’s not all. The government had put forward several other reasons, which included addiction, aggressive behavior, and crime, for the eventual ban on the game.
After careful deliberations, it seems that the South Korean game developers, Krafton, have finally secured approval from Indian authorities to resume operations of the battle-royale title in India, albeit under strict supervision and for three months. Read along to know what else we learned about the latest BGMI unban developments.
BGMI gets trial approval of three months in India under a new policy
Krafton had been engaging with the Indian regulatory body MeitY for a few months and finally received support this week to roll out the game again in India. This is what India’s Deputy IT Minister had to say regarding the unban:
“Trial approval” for three months after Krafton addressed concerns surrounding data security and location of its servers. “We will keep a close watch on other issues of user harm, addiction etc. in next 3 months before a final decision is taken,”
Krafton soon followed up with their official statement. This is what the South Korean game developers officially announced.
“We are excited to announce that Battlegrounds Mobile India will be available for download soon and we cannot wait to welcome you back to our platform. We believe in the power of gaming to bring people together and create unforgettable experiences. We are committed to delivering exceptional products and services to our users in India and beyond, and we look forward to continuing our journey with you.”
It is important to remember that the game will initially be available on a three-month trial period. The government has said that it will keep an eye on the trial period. Only after the trial period has been concluded satisfactorily the battle-royale title will be permanently unbanned from India. In other words, BGMI will be permanently unbanned only if it passes the three-month trial phase.
Krafton issues new job postings for BGMI in India
Furthermore, recent reliable sources have discovered that Krafton posted a new job posting for handling BGMI operations in India. The new job listing requires the selected candidates to conduct functional testing of all the projects published by Krafton. Additionally, the new job posting requires the candidates to preside over privacy-related issues and promptly respond to any given privacy concerns.
Therefore, with a trial period and a new job listing issued, we can conclude that Krafton has made decent headway to re-introduce the battle-royale title in India.
While there are no official confirmed dates for the unbanning, we expect things to proceed fast from now onwards. An official unban date will be announced soon.
