After a ten-month hiatus, BGMI is set to make its grand return to the Indian gaming market. Developers Krafton Inc. officially announced the news on May 19, 2023, on the title's official social media channels. However, no other information about the unban has come to light yet. Fans have just been urged to stay tuned to the social media handles of the game for further official announcements.
In the meantime, an unverified video showing that the game has been updated to its 2.6 version on the Google Play Store has been circulating on the internet. Moreover, a link that allows gamers across India to become testers for the new Battlegrounds Mobile India update has also added to the confusion of fans. Many are taking to social media to debate the authenticity of both.
Fans claim unverified video of BGMI 2.6 Google Play Store page is edited
The video in question is 32 seconds long and shows that the name of the popular battle royale game has been changed from "Battlegrounds Mobile India" to "Battlegrounds Mobile India 2.6" on its Google Play Store page.
The "Last Updated" column mentions that the app was last modified on May 20, 2023, just a day after Krafton's announcement. The announcement column, on the other hand, highlights that BGMI will be released in the 2.6.0 version, similar to PUBG Mobile.
However, this is where things get murky. The cover videos showcase interviews with popular creators like Payal and Aman that featured before the release of the 2.1 update, the last in-game update before the suspension of the game in July 2022. The gameplay video of the Ancient Secret: Arise mode can also be seen.
The message — "The app is not available for any of your devices" — has also raised questions regarding the video's authenticity.
Several Instagram profiles, Discord channels, and YouTubers have shared the video, but fans are not buying it. They are pointing out that the video could be easily doctored and questioning its validity.
Many comments state that the doctored BGMI 2.6 update video was created and circulated to fool them. Some pointed out the hilarious mistakes in the video, while others took the opportunity to vent.
Since Krafton is yet to announce the unban date and there has been no trailer for the new update yet, it is best that fans do not believe any unofficial sources. They will be able to enjoy their favorite battle royale title again very soon.
