Using his social media influence to its fullest, he shares his workout clips and drops helpful tips for his fans and followers. With more than four decades of experience under his belt, he is a huge advocate of training for longevity.
Currently 55 years old, Mike O’Hearn has had a successful career as a bodybuilder and won four Mr. Universe titles back in the day. Having trained with bodybuilding legends like Frank Zane, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Breon Ansley, and others, O’Hearn definitely knows what he’s talking about.
One of the topics that he often talks about when it comes to training is to incorporate a full range of motion in your workouts. It helps you get the best out of your grueling training session. In a recent video from his workout with Classic Physique icon Breon Ansley and fitness sensation Joshua Manoi, O'Hearn again emphasized the same.
While doing cable rows at Gold’s Gym which is considered the ‘Mecca of bodybuilding,’ Mike recalled training with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sharing his example of the benefits of training with a full range of motion, Mike O’Hearn said (via his YouTube channel):
“I was-reenacted a workout that Arnold and I did 34 years ago. It was a shoulder workout and what I loved about Arnold then is-is the range of motion that he did back then and it was you know upright rows to here. (05:03)
“I'm looking at Arnold going…Arnold still reaches for the peanut butter in the top shelf my man.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger has certainly been a big influence on Mike O'Hearn.
Mike O’Hearn admits benefits of lifting on mental health
Being in the fitness industry for decades now, Mike O’Hearn maintains a physique so good that most people can't even achieve it in their peak years. But according to him, it’s not only about lifting weights, setting new PRs, and building a great physique. He believes weightlifting is helpful in fixing his emotional problems as well.
He said in a video shared on his Instagram:
“I like the guy that's got demons from real life instead of the guy that wants to get on stage. There's something so much deeper there and I think I've also realised...when you do this as long as I have..when Arnold was talking about weightlifting, he's talking about life.
“It's like weightlifting is trying to fix my emotional problems..weightlifting is about testing myself. It is about challenging myself..its..those are much bigger things than a trophy," Mike pointed out.
Despite staying away from the competitive stage for years now, Mike O’Hearn still lifts weights daily. Owing this to his secret behind longevity and great health, O’Hearn is a true believer of the age-old saying age is just a number.
