Maria Shriver, the wife of former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger, was one of the first ones from the fitness and bodybuilding realm to react to the recent assassination attempt of former US President Donald Trump. Although the Secret Service has already killed the suspect, an investigation is underway in full force.

Expressing her views on the incident, Shriver took to Instagram and wrote:

"Violence has no place in our political landscape. Period, end of story. This is a moment for everyone to pause, to stop. We can come together, not further apart. We must seek peace, not rage. We must stand for the opposite of violence and hate. We are all in danger when we don't. We are all safer when we come together and condemn violence."

Maria Shriver further talked about her personal experiences related to such trauma as she wrote in the caption of her Instagram post:

"Gunshots are not supposed to be a part of our elections. I lost both of my uncles to political assassinations. We should all condemn this act of violence. At this moment, I hope we can be calm."

Arnold Schwarzenegger's ex-wife also praised the current President of the United States Joe Biden and the Secret Service for their quick thinking and action.

"I’m glad that President Biden reached out to him and offered his and his family’s prayers. This is how it should be. I’m glad that the Secret Service acted so swiftly. This is how it’s supposed to work," added Shriver.

FBI has identified the shooter as 20-year-old Pennsylvanian resident Thomas Matthew Crooks. While Donald Trump was lucky to have survived the attack, the incident resulted in one attendee being killed and two getting severely injured.

Federal campaign finance reports have also revealed that the suspect gave away $15 to a political action committee on the day President Joe Biden was sworn into office. The shooter had set base on a roof near the spot where the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was supposed to be held. His official documents also reveal that his house is nearly an hour-long drive from the spot.

After safely leaving the shooting scene, Donald Trump was accompanied by the heavily armed force of the agency's counter-assault team to his private golf club in New Jersey.
