Five-time Mr. Olympia Chris Bumstead has written his name in history by dominating the classic physique. Considered one of the best bodybuilders to ever live, Bumstead is aiming to win his sixth consecutive title at this year’s Mr. Olympia.
Throughout his journey, though, along his side was his long-term girlfriend and fiancée Courtney King. She was born on September 30, 1993. Born and brought up in Chicago, King has had a long history in bodybuilding, which many fans are not aware of. While most newer bodybuilding fans might not know that, longtime fans of the sport might recognise Courtney because of her history in the Bikini division.
The first bodybuilding show that Courtney King won was in 2011 at the NPC Teen National Championships in the bikini division. Next year, she won the overalls at Jay Cutler Classic. The same year, Courtney King also won her IFBB Pro card at the NPC USA Championships 2012.
Making her pro debut in 2013, Courtney King won her Olympia qualification and finished seventh. Continuing with her journey as a pro, Courtney King became Ms. Olympia in 2016, the same year when Chris Bumstead turned Pro.
Unfortunately, it was the same time when Courtney King’s health started declining. During an interview with Vital Proteins, King said:
“In February 2017, my health took a hit. I started dealing with many GI issues as well as hormone and thyroid issues. My body was telling me to "STOP" after years of extreme dieting and putting a lot of stress on myself through training and always looking a “certain way.” My body was fighting against me.”
Chris Bumstead's wife Courtney King announced her retirement in 2018
In 2018, Courtney King announced her retirement from the sport due to health issues. In her Instagram post, King revealed:
“I've had my fair shares of high times and fair shares of lows. I could go on and on about my journey with the stage and my time in the sport but I will leave it on a positive note walking away and fully knowing in my heart it was the best decision I've made.”
Chris Bumstead and Courtney King got engaged in 2022 and have a daughter, Bradley Bumstead, who's three months old. Despite Courtney being away from the sport, she supports Chris Bumstead in his hopes to win a sixth Olympia title this year.
