Hassan Saada, a Moroccan boxer has been detained by the Brazilian police this morning. He’s been arrested on suspicion of attempting to rape two maids at the Olympic Village in Brazil. Police have seized some of Saada's personal property to help them in their investigation.
The 22-year-old is a light heavyweight boxer, was thrown out of Olympics following his arrest. He will be sent to a remand prison in the Polinter district of Rio de Janeiro where he will interrogated about the allegations.
Police report that Saada attacked the two maids on Tuesday morning. They revealed that he invited one of the women to pose for a photo with him and he asked her if she had a social media account. He then pushed her to the wall and tried to physically assault her.
The second maid has accused him of offering her money for having sex with him. Apparently, Saada tried to force himself on her as well.
The Brazilian law does not have separate punishments for locals and visitors - both face the same kind of punishment for their offence. Larissa Nunes Saly, the Investigating judge has that ruled the boxer to be held in custody for 15 days while police investigate the allegations against him. Judge Nunes Saly has formally contacted the Moroccan Ambassador about the allegations.
She told O Globo newspaper: “It has been necessary to arrest Hassan Saada to investigate the allegations against him. If he was at liberty there would be a risk that he could interfere with witnesses. And there is a risk that Hassan Saada reoffend (could repeat the same).”
The boxer had been scheduled to fight in his first bout on Saturday against Mehmet Nadaradade Unal from Turkey.
