Vijender Singh maintained his unbeaten run in pro boxing as he defeated Hungary's Alexander Horvath in three rounds at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday. The Haryanvi boxer achieved the 4th straight knockout victory of his pro boxing career in the third round after being the one with the upper hand in the first two rounds as well.
Horvath, who claimed to possess special power after drinking viper's blood in the build-up to the bout looked less ‘venomous’ against Vijender, who executed his calculated punches smartly and knocked out his opponent in the third round itself.
Fighting his 1st fight of 2016, Vijender dominated proceedings with numerous left jabs into Horvath to leave him jarred and bruised as the first round drew to a close.
Vijender looked calm in the second round as well. While Alexander made several attempts to blow some quick punches and pile pressure on the Indian, the Hungarian’s blows lacked direction, went wayward and instead of helping him score some points, the punches seemingly fatigued him in a six-round bout. The second round ended with Vijender looking more settled and Alexander looking desperate to score.
The win was sealed in the third round as Horvath’s right arm was injured and the referee counted down to raise Vijender’s arm for yet another victory. It was later announced that Vijender will have two more bouts in April and May before the title bout scheduled for June in New Delhi.
