Vijender singh assured of a medal

After winning a bronze in the Olympics last year Vijender singh is on the roll again ! This time he has confirmed the first ever medal for India in World boxing championship. Currently World number 2; Vijender Singh defeated Ukrainian Sergiy Derevyanchenko 12-4 to enter the semifinals of the most prestigious boxing event. This is the farthest any Indian has reached so far.

Vijender’s next opponent is the Uzbek Abbos Atoev. Though Abbos Atoev is the former light heavy weight world champion he was defeated by Vijender few months back in Asian championship.

Vijender had an height advantage against his rival. Accoding to vijender he measured his opponent in the opening round which ended at 1-1. He went on an all out attack after that round which ended 5-3. In thefinal round he went on an offensve mode and scored 6-0 . This was the first time Vijender fought with Sergiy Derevyanchenko. National coach gurbax singh sandhu was as happy as Vijender.
