Berlin, April 27 (IANS) Wladimir Klitschko knocked out a hapless Alex Leapai to defend his three titles at the heavyweight world championship in Oberhausen.
Klitschko made short work of Leapai as he knocked out the Australian in two minutes and five seconds of round number five Saturday, reports Xinhua.
Leapai never posed a threat for Klitschko who controlled the fight from start to finish in front of 12,000 spectators in outsold Oberhausen Arena.
The 38-year-old titleholder of the WBA, IBA and WBO defended his belts and recorded his 62nd victory in his 65th fight. It is the 53rd knockout win for the Ukrainian boxer.
“I want to thank my German fans and Alex Leapai. I wish him all the best. He gave everything,” Klitschko said after the fight.
“I tried my best but Wladimir is a real champion,” Leapai admitted in a post fight interview.
It was Klitschko’s 25th world championship fight. He suffered his last defeat 10 years ago against Lamon Brewster in Las Vegas.
