The skill-based matchmaking (SBMM) in Call of Duty series has become a subject of online discussions among players in recent years, thanks to a serious lack of balanced matches. The situation hasn't really changed with the release of Modern Warfare 3 either. Surprisingly, Activision had promised to share detailed information on skill-based matchmaking in CoD games, but it seems like the full details are yet to be revealed.
One Reddit user named u/14hawks recently shared a post with an image from Activision's blog in relation to SBMM transparency. The goal was to remind everyone that the publisher hasn't delivered on its promise to clarify how SBMM in Call of Duty works in general. Apart from revealing details on the 'Ping' system, there's been no update so far on how 'Skill' plays a part in matchmaking.
While agreeing with the original poster, one individual, known as u/Danbuys, wrote that Activision has simply failed to keep its promise and the situation isn't going to change whatsoever.
"Ah, thanks friend, now it seems to be accurate for about a year of broken promises."
Meanwhile, one user, u/Playthrough_Exp, took a jab at the developers by mentioning that they must be lacking skills in delivering the intel on SBMM in Call of Duty, which is apparently skill-based.
Moreover, one Redditor known as u/realgiu wrote that Activision probably refrained from sharing further details on skill-based matchmaking to avoid criticism as it knew the situation has already gotten worse.
Another named u/Kundas wrote that they have also witnessed the presence of strong matchmaking in recent matches after coming across players with extremely high skill levels.
Meanwhile, one Redditor known as u/neveragain56 tried to mock the publisher by mentioning that it isn't aware of how to provide actual information with a paper regarding SBMM.
Lastly, one user, u/Carnifex217, wondered why Activision didn't reveal all the necessary intel at once instead of drip-feeding it. They tried to imply that the publisher might be hiding something from the community.
All things considered, it appears that nothing is going right for the series as far as SBMM in Call of Duty is concerned. Many players are still not satisfied with the way it's implemented.

Activision yet to provide a new update on SBMM in Call of Duty
The publisher first tried to throw light on SBMM earlier this year in April. A blog focusing on matchmaking tried to give players an insight into the matchmaking system and how it really works.
Initially, the publisher explained the aspect of 'Ping' and its role in making sure players get into a match as fast as possible. Ping is basically the round-trip time for data to travel from a player's game client to the dedicated server running the game simulation. If the Ping is lower, it means a smoother match experience because there is less delay in the game simulation.
Other three remaining aspects, however, namely 'Skill', 'Ranked Play', and 'Experimentation Methods' are yet to be explained. A blog on Skill was scheduled to come out last month, but it hasn't been shared yet.
