Warzone recently saw the release of its highly anticipated map, Area 99. However, fans believe this inclusion seems to have missed the mark. Despite all the hype leading up to its launch, many gamers have voiced their disappointment regarding the map on Reddit. For instance, user shehata69 made a post with this caption:
"Area 99 is horrible."
Many have compared the map to Shipment, an iconic Call of Duty map known for facilitating close-quarters combat. While that map may be fun to play in smaller, more contained modes, WZ's Area 99 has left many frustrated and underwhelmed.
User LordPalm1 humorously highlighted how chaotic Area 99 can get. They expressed their frustrations with this map's lack of safe spaces that offer respite from its constant combat.
_TheVengeful_ expressed their frustration with the map as well. Even though they're a long-time Warzone player who has experienced both the highs and lows of the game, they decided to leave the game after playing just three matches on Area 99. This speaks volumes about how t.he new map has impacted CoD veterans.
They mentioned they were "leaving WZ" for the first time in almost five years, signaling how Area 99 has broken their commitment to the game.
babyjakeyyy added to _TheVengeful_’s comment by expressing a strong sense of disappointment regarding the map. As a long-time CoD player who’s been with the series since CoD 2, they emphasized how Area 99 offered the "most boring" gameplay they’ve experienced in a Call of Duty title.
babyjakeyyy also feels this inclusion is a “massive downgrade” for the battle royale title. They even compared its gameplay to that of mobile games, highlighting how Area 99 lacked the depth and excitement that CoD is known for.
However, not everyone was equally critical of the map. For instance, Lord_Silverkey ranked Area 99 as their second favorite map after Rebirth.
They also appreciated the map’s design but suggested that the number of squads per match feels too high for its size and layout. They believe eight or nine teams of five would work better on Area 99, implying that the current team sizes are overwhelming because of the map's scale.

Is Area 99 in Warzone a hit or miss?
Whether Area 99 is a hit or miss depends largely on what you’re looking for in a Warzone map. If you enjoy fast-paced, close-quarters action with a high level of chaos, this new map might be just what you’ve been waiting for. However, if you prefer the more expansive, strategic gameplay of older Warzone maps, it may not be your cup of tea.
Regardless, this inclusion adds a unique flavor to Warzone and will likely continue to evolve. Be sure to jump in and see whether it suits your playstyle — just be prepared for some intense battles.
