Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launching on Xbox Game Pass might just have been the best thing that has happened to the series. Although it is not the first COD title to join the Game Pass, it was the first to get a day-one release on the platform, and the developers agree that this was a good move for the franchise. Black Ops 6 had the biggest launch in the series' history, and a lot of credit for this success can be attributed to the Game Pass.
Here's why Black Ops 6 releasing on Xbox Game Pass was a good thing for the Call of Duty franchise.
Why Black Ops 6 coming to Xbox Game Pass is good for the Call of Duty series?
Black Ops 6 coming to Xbox Game Pass has played a major role in the game's success. It is well known that the game has been a big hit among fans and critics alike. However, its success cannot be credited only to the game and in fact, Xbox Game Pass played a significant role in helping the title become the series' biggest launch ever.
In an interview with BBC, Miles Leslie, Associate Creative Director at Treyarch, discussed how Xbox Game Pass not only helped Black Ops 6 become so big but also brought the series back on track.

He claims that launching the game on the Xbox Game Pass just became "another avenue to really get the game in the hands of players." Previously, for a player to get their hands on the latest Call of Duty title, they had to buy it for their platforms from their respective storefronts. Even if they wanted to try it out before shelling out $70, they had no option to do so, even for a demo version of the game.
However, after the title joining Game Pass, players can pay a monthly subscription fee and try out 100s of games, including Black Ops 6. This helped the game reach a larger audience base at release.
Talking about the Xbox Game Pass, Miles Leslie had to say the following:
"What we've seen is it's allowed people that might have been on the fence, might have had some of that friction, might have been like, 'I haven't played in a while' to actually come back and try the game".
According to him, the Game Pass allowed players, old and new, to try the title first, and this had a significant role in the game becoming the series' biggest ever. In the interview, he also adds that the Game Pass has allowed veteran fans, who haven't got their hands on Call of Duty titles for a while, to give the latest game a chance.
Moving forward, the story will remain the same for the upcoming Call of Duty titles. All upcoming COD games will arrive day one on the Game Pass, which will give millions of players access to the games at a much cheaper price than the traditional way of buying the license to play.
This, in fact, now makes the Call of Duty series much more accessible with a low cost of entry. This is why Black Ops 6's success with the Xbox Game Pass launch is a saving grace for the franchise, which will bring new players and motivate seasoned pros to return to the series.
