Read more below to find out what exactly happened to Alex Mason in Black Ops 2.
Will Alex Mason be in Black Ops 6?
After years of speculation, Black Ops 6 has confirmed that Alex Mason died in Black Ops 2. So no, Alex Mason won't be a part of the main crew in Black Ops 6. Although there are secret endings in Black Ops 2 that show that Mason survives, in the game's true timeline, he dies when Frank Woods is tricked into shooting him, thus concluding Mason's story.
The story begins back in 1961 when Woods, Mason, and Hudson, throughout a journey of nearly seven years, end the plans of activating sleeper agents in the CIA, which unfortunately, Mason became a part of.
Then comes the events of the Black Ops Cold War, where Frank Woods, Mason, Hudson, along with Russell Adler, stop nukes from going off around the world and take down Perseus. In this game too, the alternative ending, where you take down Woods and his team, isn't part of the game's true timeline.

Then in 1986, the team faced Raul Menendez (Black Ops 2), who was leading the Panama Cartel. This game, however, left a lot of open endings, leading players to speculate, including the fate of Mason. So what exactly happened in Black Ops 2?
For those who are new to the franchise, in BO2, Woods in an Operation hitting the heart of the cartel, ends up mistakenly killing Menendez's sister.
Enraged by this, Raul begins his revenge arc, where he makes up his mind to give Woods a life of pain and suffering. So, Menendez along with his men, tricks Frank Woods into killing his best friend Mason, and then Raul shoots off his kneecaps to immobilize him for the rest of his life and let him live with the guilt of killing his best friend.
This confirmed that Alex Mason was indeed killed in action and speculations of him being alive all this time, were debunked right away. After these gruesome events, we arrive at the year 1991, which is when the storyline of BO6 will kick off.
The video also confirms the order in which the entries in the Black Ops series take place. It starts with Black Ops 1, followed by Black Ops Cold War, then Black Ops 2 (except for David Mason's arc), and then finally Black Ops 6.
