With Black Ops 6 Zombies coming later this year, hardcore fans might be curious to see the return of an iconic character who has been a part of the Zombies experience in the series. This is none other than Samantha Maxis, the only known face to have survived the previous Aether Story. Maxis was last seen during the events of Black Ops Cold War Zombies.
Although many have assumed that she wouldn't make an appearance again after the events of Cold War, it seems like Samantha Maxis' character arc is deeply woven into the Zombies experience of Black Ops 6, making her return very likely in the upcoming Call of Duty game.

Samantha Maxis is likely to come back in Black Ops 6 Zombies
Maxis is inextricably connected to what's going on right now in the Zombies universe of Call of Duty. For those unaware, she was originally introduced as a little girl during the Aether Story under 2008's World at War - the game that unveiled the first-ever Zombies mode in the FPS franchise.
Samantha, daughter of Ludvig Maxis, was initially seen as a demonic announcer and the main antagonist of World at War and also in 2010's Black Ops 1, until the Moon map. In said map, she was seen as a playable character for the first time during the quest called Richtofen's Grand Scheme.
Samantha was later mentioned in Black Ops 2 and was seen in its Origins map. Similarly, she was mentioned numerous times in Black Ops 4 before making a physical appearance.
In 2020's Black Ops Cold War, Maxis made a major return as part of the Dark Aether Saga. This game introduced her as a fully grown-up character compared to the previous iterations. In Cold War Zombies, she helped Reqiuem in stopping the Omega Group from harnessing Dark Aether's power.
In Cold War, Samantha eventually sacrificed herself during Operation First Domino where she helped the Strike Team in defeating the Forsaken. To stop the Forsaken from taking full control of Earth, Maxis decided to enter the Dark Aether portal inside the Forsaken. Her action resulted in the rift getting closed while allowing Doctor Peck's machine to capture the Forsaken.
After First Domino's events, Samantha's whereabouts have been mostly unknown, although she's been seen in some of the pictures in the existing Zombies mode of Modern Warfare 3. The current experience features a mysterious character of Doctor Ava Jansen who happens to have a strange biological connection with Maxis. However, the actual details are yet to be unveiled by developers when it comes to the overall context in terms of Black Ops 6 Zombies' storyline.

Given the fact that MW3 Zombies has introduced a new character whose past is linked with Samantha and the latter is presumably still inside the Dark Aether, there is a strong chance that Black Ops 6 Zombies will explore the events related to Samantha and what happened to her after she went inside the portal.
For now, unless Treyarch comes with an actual update on Maxis' return in Black Ops 6 Zombies, everything should be taken with a grain of salt.
