The Black Ops 6 Zombies Terminus Island story ending sees our characters led to Avalon under mysterious circumstances. The title was released on October 24, 2024, with its Zombies game mode garnering much praise. The developers introduced the Terminus Island map in Zombies, which features a brilliant story involving our characters (Maya, Dr. Peck, and more).
This article will explain the Black Ops 6 Zombies story ending as seen on Terminus Island, including the somewhat confusing cutscene at the end.
Note: This article contains major spoilers regarding the Black Ops 6 Zombies story. Also, some aspects are speculative.
Black Ops 6 Zombies story ending and cutscene explained
The basic ending narrative
The Black Ops 6 Zombies mode continues the story that began in the Black Ops Cold War and revolved around the substance known as Dark Aether. We see Dr. William Peck and Maya Aguinaldo free members of the main team including Weaver, Grey, and Carver from a facility where they're being held captive.
It's important to know that the main antagonist in this storyline appears to be Dr. Modi who has been watching our band of characters for a long time. She is the one who created the main facility on Terminus Island to carry out illegal experiments on humanoids to make them more sentient and control them.
We learn that Maya's brother, Nathan, was held captive by Dr. Modi and experimented on to the extent that he had turned into a twisted humanoid zombie. In the cutscene, we see Maya finally lay her brother to rest as an act of mercy. Soon, the story starts taking us to various eras of Black Ops Zombies games through several easter eggs.
Dr. Modi and the Aetherium Warheads
Let us take a step back and go to Black Ops: Cold War Zombies. During the storyline in this previous title, Dr. Peck had two Reality Inversion Aetherium Warheads. These were removed from his possession and eventually dumped into the Pacific Ocean.
During the Black Ops 6 Zombies story, we learn that Dr. Modi now has these warheads, and Peck was here to try and retrieve them in the first place. However, Dr. Modi threatens to blow up Terminus Island in order to defeat the team.
Later in the game, Maya and the team are able to stop Dr. Modi from fleeing in her submarine. Soon after, the team is attacked by Patient 13 and Dr. Modi dies in the process.
Throughout this ordeal, our team is helped by an AI named SAM that was created with the mind of Samantha Maxis, another Cold War character who had sacrificed herself to save the world. Maxis was important because she had powers that came from Dark Aether.
Sentinel Artifacts and The Chaos Story
After the crew defeats Patient 13 in the Black Ops 6 Zombies story, they manage to get back to safety where the SAM AI shows them top-secret files about the Sentinel Artifacts.
Richtofen, a recurring Black Ops character who was behind Dr. Modi, was seemingly obsessed with the Sentinel Artifacts. Going all the way back to The Chaos Story introduced in Black Ops 4, these artifacts were created by a mysterious group known as The Nine, who harnessed the energy called Prima Materia (which could be responsible for the creation of the universe).
The Chaos Story was reportedly closed never to be explored again, and yet, to the surprise of many veterans, the Black Ops 6 Zombies story brings it back.
Avalon and the real villain
The SAM AI instructs the team to explore the area known as Avalon because Richtofen believes that the Sentinel Artifacts may be hidden there. Getting the artifact back would mean bringing Samantha Maxis back from the Dark Aether and restoring her life.
However, the SAM AI is lying to the team. It has already taken Richtofen to the Dark Aether realm. In fact, it was the SAM AI that kick-started the outbreaks in Liberty Falls and even on Terminus Island. Now, it is attempting to lead our team to Avalon for unknown reasons.
Avalon could be the next map to be released in Black Ops 6 Zombies. However, SAM AI also hides a folder named The_Keep, which could yet again be another important location in the Black Ops 6 Zombies story.
Regardless, here is a summary of the ending:
- Dr. Modi is dead.
- Richtofen has been captured and taken to the Dark Aether, and therefore, cannot affect the story in the future directly.
- SAM AI is lying to the team for unknown reasons.
- Avalon or The Keep may be upcoming Black Ops 6 Zombies maps in the game.
So, this is the current status of the Black Ops 6 Zombies storyline as seen on the Terminus Island map.
