Call of Duty will be undoing all the changes in Warzone's Urzikstan right after its integration with Black Ops 6. According to the developers, this decision was taken to make room for the new gameplay mechanics such as Omnimovement. This means that the changes the map saw over time, such as access to the Bunkers, the destroyed Popov Power Plant, and the Atlas Store, will be removed from Urzikstan and the map will be reverted to its original form.
Needless to say, the community wasn't happy with the news and took to various social media platforms to share their thoughts. Well-known Call of Duty content creator, @IceManIsaac was also one of them.
He posted the following on X, sharing his thoughts about Call of Duty's decisions:
"THEY REVERTED ALL MAP CHANGES TO URZIKSTAN. No bunkers. No Popov overhaul. No Superstore. Most of the BO6 integration looks promising but WTF is this..."
His frustration with the changes was visible in the post. The changes to the map over time, such as the Popov overhaul and the Superstore, were very well-appreciated. Fans who have played the map since its release, saw it evolve over the seasons. However, all of these changes and tweaks will no longer be in place, and since it is getting reverted to the original, fans being upset over it isn't surprising. @IceManIsaac's community soon followed up on his post and shared their opinions in the comment section.
An X user who goes by the username @Mrsknowitall, also shared similar thoughts about the changes. Here's what they had to say:
"I was so happy reading all the info we got today and then saw this... why is there always something"
They mention that, like @IceManIsaac, they were quite excited about the upcoming changes to Warzone. However, as soon as they read about the Urzikstan changes, they were upset. They added that there's "always something", which suggests that although they had high expectations of Call of Duty this time around, there was something that ultimately led to disappointment.
Another user @BeastMode_XD had similar thoughts:
"The only way this makes any sense is that it's suppossed to be back in time to the 90s since that's when BO6 takes place. Either way I wish they didn't revert the changes."
According to them, the only way these changes would make sense is if the integration of Black Ops 6 takes the map's setting back to the 90s.
For those unaware, Black Ops 6 is based in the 90s during the Gulf War in the Middle East, and hence the changes to Urzikstan to match the era would make sense. @BeastMode_XD added that they didn't appreciate the changes and would rather have the current version of the map instead of the original one.
One of the themes that could be seen repeating in the comment section is that the map Urzikstan is doomed by going back to its original design and the fans would rather wait until Verdansk returns.
As seen in the image above, these comments hint at the fact the Warzone going back with their changes in Urzikstan is just making the return of Verdansk much more enticing.
One of these comments by @iiMacDonald_ highlighted quite an interesting point. According to them, Call of Duty is reverting all these quality-of-life changes on the map and will bring them back later as new features, creating the illusion of the game giving something new to the fans. They too believe that the Battle Royale mode is doomed and will only be enticing once Verdansk drops later next year.
While most of the comments despised these changes, a few had their ideas about why Call of Duty was doing so and it seems to be technical.
Another popular Call of Duty content creator, @TheTacticalBrit commented on the post:
"Started working on the engine transfer before this happened probably."
They speculated that the developers may have started their work to bring the Black Ops 6 game mechanics to Warzone before the changes were pushed to Urzikstan. In such a case, reverting to the original version of the map would make much more sense since that's how the mechanics were implemented by the developers to be in sync with the map, and they might not work well with its updated version.
Similar thoughts were also shared by @itslouisangeli:
"There must be an issue with B06 integration that in order to effectively integrate it they must use that version of the map and they will expand on it and bring back all the updates thereafter to be a smoother integration"
They too are of the opinion that Urzikstan is rolling back to the original variant for it to properly integrate the Black Ops 6 mechanics. They then added that the devs will bring back the existing features when the new BO6 gameplay mechanics can be smoothly integrated with the map as how it currently stands.
Since Omnimovement allows for a completely new way to play the game, implementing the map changes correctly would be essential for an overall smooth experience, rather than just including them for the sake of it.
Overview of fans' reaction to COD reverting all changes to Urzikstan in Warzone after its Black Ops 6 integration
After the Season 1 blog for Warzone and Black Ops 6 went live, fans were quite excited about the upcoming changes. However, one particular aspect of the blog caught them off guard — Urzikstan will be restored to its original form. Needless to say, it was quite disappointing for them as many well-loved features would be getting removed.
This sparked widespread discussions online with fans criticising the changes and some justifying them as well. The comments were quite varied. Most, however, seemed to be unhappy with the removal of the Superstore.
Others tried to justify these changes by claiming that this was the engine shift and that the work for this transfer had begun way before and was implemented on the original map. Hence, implementing them on the newer version of the map right off the bat would be next to impossible.
