Recently, Matt Scronce, the Associate Director of Design at Treyarch, explained why Black Ops 6 movement might feel clunkier than Modern Warfare 2019. One of the most intriguing features in the latest Call of Duty title is the Omnimovement system, which allows players to slide, dive, and sprint in all directions. The feature also allows players to be "supine prone", which gives them 360-degree movement capabilities while prone.

Despite Black Ops 6 revolutionizing movement mechanics in Call of Duty, it stirred up a few debates online. Some loved the system and others despised it, claiming it made the game clunkier and compared it to the fluid movement in Modern Warfare 2019.

In one of those posts on X which compared the movement in the latest COD game to MW 2019, Matt Scronce decided to participate in the discussion and explained why the movement felt clunkier in Black Ops 6 compared to Modern Warfare 2019.

Why is Black Ops 6 movement clunkier than Modern Warfare 2019?

Matt Scronce, the Associate Director of Design at Treyarch explained in-depth why the movement in Black Ops 6 is clunkier than Modern Warfare 2019. He goes on to explain that if the prone and crouch speeds are too fast (more fluid), it would end up creating a mismatch between the first and third-person point of view. This is called Snaking and has been a major cause of concern in the previous Call of Duty games.

So essentially, if someone is Snaking, it becomes difficult for the opponents to hit them due to perspective mismatch. Thus concluding that faster movement or fluid movement isn't always the answer as it can do more harm than good to the game.

Then Matt explains that he has never been personally a fan of "spamming jump during combat". Hence, when the team at Treyarch designed Omnimovement for Black Ops 6, they went out of their way to ensure that the weapon's sway or bob when jumping/diving was adjusted in such a way that it did not end up becoming the go-to strategy for engaging in combat.

Hence, players who wish to play shoot and jump at the same time, have a plethora of Perks and attachments at their disposal that improve their capabilities to engage in gunfights while jumping/diving/sliding.

This design choice was intentional and is exactly why BO6 might feel clunkier than Modern Warfare 2019. To ensure that players do not abuse tricks such as Snaking and take advantage of the attachments/Perks to fine-tune their experience, Call of Duty took this route for Omnimovement.

So, despite allowing you to move in multiple ways with Omnimovement, it might be clunkier as it was designed to limit the number of ways players exploit the feature.

That covers everything that you need to know about why the movement in Black Ops 6 is clunkier than it used to be in Modern Warfare (2019).
