After the introduction of the highly competitive mode, Black Ops 6 Ranked Play, it was quickly overrun by cheaters, leading to a frustrating experience for players. For several hours, encounters with cheaters became alarmingly frequent, prompting even top Call of Duty content creators to voice their annoyances on X. However, the developers quickly acknowledged the issue and responded by implementing updates to the game's anti-cheat system, Ricochet.
This article outlines the measures Call of Duty has taken to combat the surge of cheaters in Black Ops 6 Ranked Play. It also provides all the updated details regarding these efforts.
CoD devs have implemented new updates to Ricochet to combat cheaters in Black Ops 6 Ranked Play
Many players, including prominent content creators like @OctaneSam, @DKarma, @Nadeshot, and several others have expressed their frustration over the rampant cheating in Black Ops 6 Ranked Play. Some even stated that the mode has become "unplayable" and the cheating has never been this severe in the history of Call of Duty Ranked Play.
In response, the developers highlighted several behind-the-scenes efforts to strengthen Ricochet's efficiency. Key updates include:
- Identified and fixed a data outage that lowered the efficacy of AI systems
- Adjusting existing thresholds for Ranked Play - aggressive targeting of suspicious accounts
- Accelerating Replay Investigations to review suspicious players
From these updates, it's clear that the primary issue was a data outage, which lowered the AI system's efficacy. With that now fixed, the developers have strengthened the system.
Additionally, more aggressive targeting of suspicious accounts means stricter thresholds for detecting unusual player behavior. Finally, the acceleration of replay investigations will improve the accuracy of identifying cheaters, as legitimate players may occasionally be flagged incorrectly.
All that said, players continue to request the option to toggle crossplay on or off, as Ranked Play currently keeps crossplay enabled by default. It offers no option to disable it. Additionally, many are asking the developers to address the issue of shadowbans, where legitimate players are being banned due to spam reports.
While recent updates have made progress in addressing the cheating issue, full effectiveness will take time. More updates are expected, with stricter rules and detection processes designed to better differentiate between hackers and legitimate players.
The developers have thanked the fanbase for their patience in the battle against attacks that disrupt fair play. To maintain the game's reputation and integrity, they are committed to addressing these issues swiftly and rolling out updates to keep cheaters at bay.
