Call of Duty recently changed the player count on the Resurgence map Area 99 in Warzone. In their latest patch notes, the developers discussed that after looking at their internet reports, they concluded that a reduction in player counts for each squad size was imminent. They brought down the player count for Quads in the map from 44 to 40, Trios from 45 to 42, Duos from 44 to 40, and Solo from 45 to 40. It was a welcome change for many, as the map was quite small to host a large player count.
That said, not everyone agreed with these changes. Many despised them and shared their thoughts on social media platforms. One of the posts on the COD Warzone subreddit dropped a screenshot of the changes, stating that the tweaks can hopefully improve gameplay on the map. However, as stated earlier, everyone wasn't on the same page.
Redditor u/DontBeDayroom had to say the following about the player count changes:
"Didn’t need changed, if anything there needed to be more squads."
According to them, the reduction in player count on Area 99 in Warzone was not at all necessary. They would have preferred if the player count was instead increased on the map with more squads and players.
Their thoughts were echoed by another Redditor. Here's what u/Only_Fun_6321 had to say about the gameplay on the map after the changes:
"After a min it drops down to 35. This is kind of lame"
They mention that after these changes, it doesn't take long for the player count to drop to 35. This is quite low for a map of Area 99's size, especially if it's just one minute into a match.
Many others, too, were seemingly upset with the lower player count on Area 99. It's primarily due to the fact that the map isn't as fast-paced as it used to be, according to them.
These complaints highlight that Area 99 is meant to be a fast-paced map. When the player count is reduced, this slows down the flow of gameplay on the map and as a result, matches become stale. Fans opined that even before the player count was reduced, the matches would end fairly quickly, as most players tend to die out in the early game. A community member stated that people only complained about reducing the count on the map, as they were unfamiliar with it.

While these were the primary concerns for some players on the map, others were quite elated with the changes. u/Ahhgotreallots appreciated the update and said the following:
"A step in the right direction, but should have been more. Maybe another team removed and then 2 or 3 in solo, but I'm glad it's been reduced."
According to them, a lower player count was certainly a step in the right direction. While they appreciated the changes that were made, they wanted the player count to be lowered further, especially in Solo mode. As of this writing, it stands at 40, and the user wanted it to be in the high 30s.
Similar thoughts were shared by u/Hockeydud82 who, too, wanted the player count to be even lowered. Here's what they said,
"Good start but I’d like to see it tinkered with going a bit lower. The map is very very small."
They are of the opinion that, with the reduced player count, the developers are heading in the right direction. However, similar to u/Ahhgotreallots they wish to see the player count go even lower.
While many argued about the player count change on Area 99 in Warzone, a user came out to put all these to rest. At the time of writing, they have the most upvoted comment on the thread, and here's what they had to say about debates that took all over the post:
"It’s hard to take the criticisms of this sub seriously when there was a post about Area 99 yesterday and one of the most frequent complaints was the number of players on the map yet when the player count is reduced the next day no one is celebrating the change. The goal posts are constantly moving."
They stated that everyone on the COD Warzone subreddit was all over the place. Only a day before the changes, people in the same community complained about the large player count on the map.
Be that as it may, when developers listened to the feedback and deployed the player count changes, instead of meeting them with gratefulness, they were criticized for the tweaks.
Call of Duty fans debate reduced player count on Area 99 in Warzone
Call of Duty had recently reduced the player count on Area 99 in Warzone, and as it typically goes with the COD community, this instantly sparked debates among its fans. Players were seemingly divided on the update. While some appreciated them lowering the player count, others considered it to be redundant and making things worse.
The fans that disagreed with the reduced player count, highlighted that the map was fast-paced, and with the lower count, it slowed down gameplay. As a result, it no longer felt the same.
On the other hand, fans who appreciated the patch, went on to discuss how it now made for a better playing experience, as they now had a fighting chance after respawning. Moreover, it was highlighted that Area 99 was a bit too small to accommodate the original player count.
