The CoD Black Ops series has captivated many players since its launch in 2008. As of this writing, there are six different Black Ops titles, with CoD Black Ops 6 set to be the seventh one. Although Call of Duty: World at War doesn't bear the Black Ops name, we recommend players start there if they want to experience the saga as the developers intended.

This chronological list will cover every single Black Ops title that has ever been released, including the upcoming Black Ops 6.

Call of Duty: World at War was launched on November 11, 2008, by Treyarch. It is the fifth entry in the CoD franchise and the first in the Black Ops series. Although the title might confuse readers, it is still considered to be a part of the Black Ops family, as it features several characters who go on to play prominent roles in CoD: Black Ops.

As the name suggests, World at War depicts several World War 2 theaters from American and Soviet viewpoints. This is why its single campaign is divided into American and Soviet components.

In the American campaign, players take on the role of C. Miller while the Soviet one puts the player in the shoes of Dimitri Petrenko. It also features a multiplayer mode, including killstreaks, Ranks, and Perks.

This game also introduced two new gameplay features: a weapon flashlight and dive-to-prone. Moreover, apart from having 15 single-player missions, it also featured the Zombies mode from CoD World at War and a new mode called Dead Ops Arcade.

Moreover, Black Ops II was the first time the narrative entered the modern era since it focuses on two interconnected storylines - one set in the 1980s and the other in 2025.
