Sandbox enthusiasts might be wondering if Call of Duty's DMZ is worth revisiting in 2024. This mode was first introduced with Modern Warfare 2 on October 28, 2022. It places Operators into small teams, and their job is to complete missions, gather loot, and, finally, exfiltrate. This PvPvE mode can be downloaded from the CoD HQ and accessed from its MW2 tab.

It has not received any new content updates since the launch of MW3 in 2024. However, it still has a small but dedicated community keeping it alive. Still, due to a lack of content like missions and maps, players are concerned about the future of DMZ.

This article takes a look at Modern Warfare's forgotten extraction shooter mode and tells gamers whether it is worth revisiting in 2024.

Is DMZ worth playing in 2024?

Despite being abandoned by the developers, DMZ is still playable in 2024 due to its slow-paced nature compared to MW3's fast-paced gameplay. Al Mazrah, Vondel, Ashika Island, and Building Complex are the four playable maps in this mode. It includes map-specific objectives and contracts that players can complete in squads or solos.

Most fans perceive DMZ as Warzone with missions, which renders this mode's PvE aspect useless. Players hunt and raid enemies because they are not penalized. This makes it frustrating for gamers who are looking to complete missions. The player count in DMZ has significantly fallen due to this aspect.

DMZ also lacks the explosive movement featured in MW3, as it incorporates movement mechanics from 2022's MW2. The absence of mechanics like slide-cancelling and regulated tactical sprinting was one of the major reasons the mode was disliked by the masses.

Cheaters and high-skilled players have elevated the skill ceiling of this mode, making matters challenging for newbies during extraction missions. The AI enemies are not competitive, including the bosses, who can be easily eliminated with meta weapons.

The developers at Activision have prioritized Multiplayer and Zombies over DMZ, which has resulted in the content feeling repetitive. Unlike DMZ, which is free-to-play, the other modes require you to purchase MW3. This might be a reason the developers aren't focusing on it anymore; the mode's lack of content might have resulted in its low playercount.

DMZ is worth revisiting in 2024 because it is still enjoyable, even though the mode isn't receiving updates or support. It has a lot to offer and would be a great mode to transfer to future titles. When MW3 was released, it didn't have a DMZ mode, but the developers incorporated its elements into this title's Zombies mode.

However, players don't feel both modes are the same because the latter only offers PvE gameplay with no PvP aspect.
