Warzone is Call of Duty's take on a battle royale game. Although it is not their first attempt at a battle royale shooter, we can say for certain that it has been the most successful one. But with a dwindling player count and decreasing relevance in pop culture, one of the questions that has been frequently asked by gamers is whether Warzone is dead.

Hence, in this brief article, we'll take a closer look at the current state of Warzone and hopefully answer all questions you might have.

What is the current state of Warzone (2024)?

There is only one metric that can describe the current state of Warzone and that is the game's player count. At the time of writing, the battle royale shooter peaked at 101,021 players in the last 24 hours on Steam. In comparison, back in 2022 when the game was launched on Steam, it had reached a peak of 491,670 players. But these numbers are only from Steam.

The title is also available on Battle.net, PlayStation, and Xbox. Although the player count on these platforms is not known, we can expect similar numbers. If that holds to be true, we can arrive at a number that's close to half a million players per day or more. It is also one of the most viewed games on Twitch.

These numbers alone are sufficient evidence of the fact that Warzone is not yet dead, but it's not without challenges.

As mentioned earlier, the game has been losing its player count gradually despite the efforts of the developers to bring new content. So what is the reason for this?

One of the problems that the game is facing is cheating. Being a free-to-play game with a poor anti-cheat solution, cheating has become a major concern for players. As of January 2024, over 23,000 accounts have been issued permanent bans and this number is only going to go up. Secondly, Battle Royale as a genre is slowly losing its popularity and most battle royale games have been facing similar issues.

Despite these challenges, thousands of players log in to the game every day. The developers have been constantly pushing updates and content to keep it fresh for their player base. But that's not all. A good sign that a game isn't dead, is the plans of the developers with their product.

With Black Ops 6 just around the corner, Warzone is also set to receive a plethora of updates that will bring new gameplay mechanics, new maps, and more. All of these point to the fact that the battle royale title is not dead and it will be a long time before we can even claim the game to be going through its final days.

That covers everything that you should know about the state of Warzone in 2024.
