Not even a year after its release, Warzone Mobile finds itself in a tough spot. The initial hype surrounding the title was quite high. Activision was bringing the classic battle royale experience to mobile devices, and fans were anticipating its arrival. Finally, after months of testing and limited releases in certain regions, the game launched globally on March 21, 2024. However, the excitement didn't last long and the title is now on the verge of being deemed a "dead game."

So what went wrong with Activision's massive project? In this article, we will take a closer look at the current state of WZM.

Exploring the current state of Warzone Mobile

There are various parameters to judge whether Warzone Mobile is dying. One of them is its player count, and the other is the revenue it's generating for the developers. Although we don't have an exact figure on either, recent stirrups in the industry have given us a view of what is going on with the game. On top of that, the community's voice is an equally important factor.

So, we will look at both the official developments and the community's opinions about the title to judge whether WZM is dying.

Microsoft scales down Warzone Mobile team

One of the most bulletproof evidence of WZM not doing well is the recent layoffs. For those unaware, Microsoft, which owns Activision, let go of nearly 650 members of its gaming team, including members of the Warzone Mobile team.

One of the major reasons for this downscaling is attributed to the game's revenue, which is currently failing to meet expectations. This suggests only one thing —people aren't playing the game.

But why is that the case? With over 50 million preregistrations and generating over $1.4 million within the first four days of its global release, why are Call of Duty fans not playing the game anymore? This is where the community's voice kicks in.

Warzone Mobile players are quitting the game

When Warzone Mobile launched, one of the major criticisms was its terrible performance. The community claimed that it only catered to those with high-end devices. In fact, on its launch day, the WZM had several issues on all Android devices, with negative reviews flooding the title's page on the Google Play Store.

As time passed, the situation did improve a bit. However, the core problem remains, which is simply a lack of proper optimization. Despite the best hardware, the title still runs poorly. In an FPS game like WZM, the frame rates are everything for a proper experience and this is exactly where the developers failed to deliver.

On top of that, the cheaters are plaguing the game and players are frequently criticizing the new content.

As a result, loyal fans are now quitting after being with the title for over 6 months. The game is gradually losing a big chunk of its player base, which also means less revenue for the studios behind it.

Conclusion: Is Warzone Mobile dying?

So to answer the question of whether Warzone Mobile is dying, it is not a simple yes or no. While the game is losing players and failing to bring in the expected revenue, it isn't dying anytime soon. It still boasts a fairly strong player base and Microsoft has promised to keep the game running for the time. Moreover, there's been no news of it getting shut down either.

One can fairly conclude that the game is in a tough spot right now and things aren't looking great or seeming to improve anytime soon. This, however, might be the beginning of the end for Warzone Mobile.
