Call of Duty Black Ops 6 is releasing on October 25, 2024, and before its release, many fans don't want a certain repetition in the upcoming title. Since the release of Warzone, Activision has been hosting multiple crossovers and releasing several operator skins and blueprints. While this helps with the microtransactions and interests fans from other games/TV shows to be a part of the CoD universe, hardcore fans aren't happy.
Recently, Call of Duty released a Gundam crossover and three bundles with operator skins. A user named idheiwhdirbfj took the matter to Reddit and said that "someone running around as a Gundam with a lightsaber" ruins the immersion on some level.
Since the game's release, it has been known for its realism and militaristic aesthetic. However, with time, it has followed titles like Fortnite to bring multiple skins and cosmetics. The user on the thread states,
"COD used to have an identity, it was the tacticool shooter that took itself seriously, even if the fanbase didn't reflect that. Now, it's a clown show with laser gun"
Another user agrees with OP and replies it would be best if Call of Duty takes out all the operator skins in Black Ops 6 and allows players to have military skins again. The user adds that the weapons with silly cosmetics are still fun, and they don't mind using them.
In response, ParadowInRaindrops brings out Valorant's example:
"Valorant does this. No cosmetics that alter character silhouettes, not even recolors for Agents. They put all the focus into weapon cosmetics, and they honestly have some really dope blueprints. This means you always know what character you’re looking at."
While many users shared their dissatisfaction, RdJokr1993 revealed that the majority of the CoD community is extremely indifferent toward the situation. A large number of people buy the skins and the microtransaction is now stronger than ever. Hence, it's futile to argue about whether Black Ops 6 should focus more on MilSim skins or goofy operators from different universes.
CoD fan wants "core skins only" mode in Black Ops 6
While most people agreed with the Reddit thread, Drama79 suggested a unique solution to the potential problem in Black Ops 6.
"Create a "All game modes: Core skins only" as an option at the first menu. Job done."
With a separate game mode for core skins, players would actually be able to experience the immersion that they have been clamoring for. What do you think regarding the cosmetic situation in Black Ops 6? Let us know in the comment section.
