It seems like the growing trend of stylized map variants in Modern Warfare 3 is not impressing a lot of Call of Duty players. Since its launch, the game has seen various old maps like Rust, Scrapyard, and Terminal getting reskinned with new settings and designs compared to their regular, iconic layouts. However, this change has not gone down well with many fans.
On Reddit, a Call of Duty player, u/Calma123_, shared a post criticizing the introduction of map variants in Modern Warfare 3. Here's what they wrote in their post description:
"These repulsive vortex maps make me sick every time they appear, and the fact that they're just a revamp of an old map makes it even worse!"
Other Redditors also agreed with the original poster. u/SnooApples661 wrote that when the map variants in Modern Warfare 3 were initially revealed, the concept appeared to be really fun. However, now they believe that this change has affected the Multiplayer experience since such map designs don't fit the format.
u/F1R3Starter83 was of the opinion that map variants in Modern Warfare 3 are horrible. Giving an example of Sporeyard (a variant of Scrapyard), they mentioned that it looks bad in terms of lighting and visibility.
Other Redditors also mentioned that the map variants in Modern Warfare 3 have been mostly disappointing, to say the least. Several users wrote that these reflect a lack of unique map design by developers and they should be removed sooner rather than later.
Some players mentioned that the redesigned layout for old maps is not impressive or unique at all compared to their iconic designs. They thought such variants should be best left for a Halloween-themed event instead rather than including them in regular Multiplayer experience.
Map variants in Modern Warfare 3 have increased rapidly
For those unaware, Sledgehammer Games's team has brought multiple map variants to Modern Warfare 3. So far, the developers have revealed ones like Tetanus, Sporeyard, Das Gross, Airborne, Satan's Quarry, and Skidgrow based on Rust, Scrapyard, Das Haus, Terminal, Quarry, and Skidrow, respectively.
Going by fan reactions, it seems like not everyone has embraced the reskinned versions of old maps in the game. It will be interesting to see if the developers will keep adding new map variants in the next seasonal update of Modern Warfare 3.
