Activision fixes major Xbox Game Pass issue in MW3 and Warzone

Activision has finally deployed a fix for the MW3 and Warzone players using Xbox Game Pass. The update fixes the UI issues plaguing the game, where a PC user playing via the Game Pass would be shown as an Xbox player in the lobby. This confused players and is allegedly one of the major reasons for the rise of cheating in the games.

Activision just dropped a patch that fixes the UI issues for Xbox Game Pass users playing MW3 and Warzone on PC. With this, PC users will no longer be represented as console players in the games, which, as stated, was a major cause of confusion among fans.

For those unaware of the entire fiasco, Modern Warfare 3 was added to the Xbox Game Pass on July 24, 2024. However, PC players who played the shooter using this subscription would be recognized as console players. This led to many users believing they were playing with other console players, but they were actually mouse-and-keyboard users.

This allegedly triggered the recent rise in cheating as well. Ricochet, the anti-cheat system for Call of Duty games, doesn't have kernel-level console access. Hence, it doesn't make soft checks for software that could be used for cheating on a console, and since cheating on a console is rare, it wasn't a big deal.

However, with PC users playing the shooters via Game Pass being recognized as Xbox players, they could bypass the strict anti-cheat measures imposed on PC users, which was allegedly the reason for the recent cheating surge.

Fortunately, after the UI update, PC users won't show up as console players in the games after the icons representing the Xbox Game Pass players on PC have been changed to reflect the actual system they are playing MW3 and Warzone on.
