Atlanta Faze has won the first-ever Modern Warfare 3 tournament at the Esports World Cup 2024. The four-man squad took down 100 Thieves at the MW3 Grand Finals on August 19, 2024, bringing home $600,000. The team bested 15 other squads in the four-day tournament. While leading the Atlanta-based squad to their victory, Celium also grabbed $50,000 for himself as the tournament MVP.
Modern Warfare 3 in the Esports World Cup was a $1.8 million tournament where 16 squads fought for the ultimate prize.
Atlanta FaZe defeats 100 Thieves to win first MW3 tournament in Esports World Cup
After falling short in their championship bid in the Call of Duty League Champs 2024, Atlanta FaZe redeemed themselves by winning the first MW3 tournament in the Esports World Cup 2024. The team, composed of aBeZy, Cellium, Drazah, and Simp, finessed through the playoffs to win the best-of-seven grand finals against 100 Thieves, 4-2.
100 Thieves entered the Grand Finals with solid momentum after eliminating the CDL powerhouses, Toronto Ultra, and Vancouver Surge (Seattle Surge) in the playoffs. While the team was seemingly poised to win the crown, it wasn't long until Atlanta FaZe ended their fairytale run.
Atlanta easily took the first two Hardpoint matches and the Thieves found themselves down to two in the best-of-seven game. The latter struck back to win both the Control map and the Search and Destroy maps. However, the second round of Search went smoothly for Atlanta FaZe, and with just a win away from the trophy, they oozed confidence in the last match of the series. Despite the fight shown by 100 Thieves, Atlanta Faze reigned supreme.
On the other hand, in July 2024, Team Biffle won the $1 million Call of Duty Warzone competition in the Esports World Cup.
