Media outlet Wired's report on Activision's practice of using generative AI in its games recently claimed that the publisher used AI in Warzone and MW3 titles. Per the report, Call of Duty's team began using AI in Warzone and MW3 in early 2023, and later that year, it sold one AI-generated cosmetic skin as part of Modern Warfare 3 - the latest installment in the franchise.

While the report didn't mention the cosmetic skin by name, it featured a link showing that one of the first AI-created cosmetic skins in Warzone and MW3 is called Yokai's Wrath. It was released in late 2023 and was based on the Operator Riptide.

In early 2024, fans expressed their extreme disappointment over Call of Duty's slightly increasing focus on using AI after one of the job roles offered by Activision-owned studio Treyarch required a candidate with AI expertise for game development.
