Call of Duty to upgrade server-side infrastructure for Warzone and Black Ops 6
Call of Duty is set to bring a few new changes to its servers. These are expected to improve stability by adding more redundancies so the servers can handle higher loads without affecting the online gameplay experience. Activision is also slated to upgrade its kernel driver and integrate new server-side detection measures. The exact use of the detection feature has not been confirmed but could be used for deterring cheaters or making better lobbies for Ranked in Warzone and Black Ops 6.

Two of the most important aspects discussed in the matchmaking white paper released by Activision are Ping and Search Time. The system also uses factors like Skill Disparity, Rank Disparity, and Raw Skill that determine a player’s performance in ranked matches and place them in different buckets when finding a lobby. After considering all such stats, the matchmaking process creates distinct teams to sort users with and against similarly skilled players.

The research paper highlights there are natural circumstances, like high-ranked players in low-population areas, that might result in longer queue times. Moreover, in the absence of other similarly skilled players in such areas, the matchmaking system could potentially decide to place the player in different ranked tier matches.
