Activision just sent a Cease and Desist order to take down MW2 multiplayer mod H2M. On their official X account, the extension's developers said that they are shutting down all operations "immediately and permanently." Since the announcement of the mod for Modern Warfare Remastered, fans have shown massive interest in the add-on.

However, this free-to-play mod — which was supposed to go live on August 16, 2024 — will never be released due to the Cease and Desist order. Read on to learn more about the H2M mod and why it was taken down by Activision.

Activision sends a Cease and Desist order to take down Call of Duty mod H2M

Previously, Activision sent a Cease and Desist order to take down a Call of Duty mod called SM2. Its developers had spent over a year to create the extension on the Modern Warfare (2019) engine. However, they had to shut it down after getting the Cease and Desist letter sent by Activision.

Now, CoD fans' fear of the H2M mod for Modern Warfare Remastered not coming to fruition have come true.

Since the mod's announcement, MW Remastered saw a massive surge in player numbers, becoming the top-selling game on Steam within three days. Activision didn't send a Cease and Desist letter until the day before the mod was supposed to release (August 16, 2024), and that angered the CoD community. A user named Calzeh commented on the H2M developers' post:

"Time for all of us to refund MWR on Steam."

The H2M multiplayer mod was meant to allow players to experience the OG Modern Warfare 2 (2009) maps in an enhanced environment of Modern Warfare Remastered. The add-on was also set to bring the classic Prestige system, exclusive camos for players to unlock, such as Killstreaks, and Weapon Inspectors.

While this is another missed opportunity for players to experience the golden days of Call of Duty, what do you think about Activision's decision to send a Cease and Desist letter to the developers of H2M? Let us know in the comments section.
