Warzone's recent update, which introduced the Squid Game 2 event, also brought changes to Warzone Ranked Play, including the return of the live ping feature. For context, live pings were disabled on December 21, 2024, due to a bug that caused enemy pings to trigger danger pings instantly. To address this, developers temporarily disabled live pings in Ranked Play.
Now, with the latest update, the feature has been re-enabled but temporarily. This article will provide details about this change in Warzone Ranked Play.
Live pings have been briefly re-enabled in Warzone Ranked Play
Live pings in Warzone was a feature that allowed players to mark and ping enemies for two seconds, helping teammates locate their positions. However, a bug disrupted this function, causing normal pings to trigger danger pings instead. To address the issue, developers temporarily disabled the feature in Warzone Ranked Play.
With the recent update, live pings have been re-enabled. This change, however, wasn't mentioned in the January 3, 2025, patch notes. Instead, it was revealed through an official Call of Duty post, which stated that the re-enabling of live pings is temporary. The post specifically mentioned that live pings should once again be disabled, with the word "briefly" used to indicate the feature's temporary status.
The post stated:
"The most recent update briefly re-enabled live pings in Ranked Play. They should once again be disabled."
This omission from the patch notes raises the possibility that the feature was re-enabled by mistake. Alternatively, since the fix is not permanent, developers might have chosen not to include it in the patch notes. Instead, they may be conducting an experimental re-enabling to test if the issue is resolved, gathering data on its performance before considering a permanent solution.

The live ping issue in Warzone is insignificant compared to the ongoing hacker problem, which remains out of control. Players are frequently encountering hackers in Ranked Play, disrupting the experience.
However, live pings are an essential feature that enhances communication within the team. Providing real-time visual cues can help teammates stay informed and avoid confusion, making it easier for the entire squad to spot and react to enemy positions.
If the re-enabling was part of an experiment, the feature may soon permanently return once all issues have been resolved. For now, we must remain patient and wait for further updates from the developers.
