"These maps are a**" - CoD fans are frustrated with the maps in Black Ops 6

The maps in the Black Ops 6 Beta didn't quite sit well with the game's community, and their frustration was quite visible on online platforms. Recently, @ModernWarzone on X asked his community what changes they would like to see in Black Ops 6 when it finally releases this October 25, 2024, and almost all of the comments on that post talked about the game's maps.

One of the X users, a content creator who goes by the username @PeakedPanda, had to say the following about the maps:

"Big maps for better spawns.. Less tunnels, holes in walls, side doors.. just easily nice flowing maps large enough that scales with the enhanced movement capabilities. Cause these maps are a**.. we literally play in a hole in the ground. Like we're in a cock fight or something."

@PeakedPanda was visibly frustrated with the map design. According to them, the bigger the maps are, the more choices the developers have to tweak the spawns, which, as it stands, is a major concern for players.

They mentioned that larger maps will also allow the new Omnimovement feature to scale well. As the maps currently stand in Black Ops 6, PeakedPanda called them "a**", and went off a canon claiming that they felt like they were playing in a hole, citing cockfights as an example to describe their personal experience. However, they're not the only ones who didn't like the maps, and the same sentiments could be seen throughout the comments of the original post.

Popular Call of Duty content creator Westie (@MrProWestie on X) also had similar things to say about the maps. They start by stating the maps need changes in the final Black Ops 6 launch and gave their reason as follows:

"They aren’t memorable. They’re too small. They don’t effectively allow players to experience the new Omnimovement systems, despite the fact that’s a huge marketing point of the game. But it’s too late to change maps now so"

Westie too brought attention to the size of the maps, calling them "too small". They mentioned that because of how small these maps are, they don't allow players to get the proper Omnimovement experience, which is one of the highlights of Black Ops 6.

Call of Duty has been actively promoting the new Omnimovement since day one of the game's reveal, and it's one of the major reasons for the hype this year. However, they don't seem to fit with the maps that were made available in the shooter's beta. Westie, however, acknowledged that it's too late now for Treyarch to switch things up as the game is only a few weeks again from an official release.

Another user, @BetterThanMETA_, also didn't like the maps in the game and commented:

"A good collection of medium sized 3-lane maps without exposed sight lines from absolutely everywhere. The current maps are all pretty small and a lot of them are VERY exposed"

While others were demanding big maps, @BetterThanMETA_ wishes to see more medium-sized, typical 3-lane Call of Duty maps. They claim that the maps currently are quite exposed, meaning that they have a lot of line of sight from various angles and thus, leave no safe haven for players to retreat to. The issue of being exposed from numerous angles is even more pronounced with small maps as it doesn't give players a proper fighting chance and get constantly fired upon.

A user who goes by the username @SwamiBeats also had similar thoughts about the maps' size. Here's what they had to say:

"More medium/large maps. Small map focus is brain-dead and unfun. My hopes for S&D being good aren't high."

Small maps seem to be the bane for Black Ops 6. In the beta, the maps that were showcased were quite small in scale. @SwamiBeats focuses on this aspect of the maps and cites that they want more medium or large maps in the games, bringing more variety to the map pool. They believe that Search & Destroy, a fan-favorite game mode, would not fit well with the maps as is and their hopes for it are quite low.

All maps are designed keeping in mind the various game modes. Occasionally, if a map or two doesn't fit well with a particular mode, it is considered quite normal. But if all eight maps that were present in the beta don't play well with one of the classic game modes in the shooter, that is certainly a cause for concern.

While most comments talked about the maps in general, a few had specific maps in their minds that they particularly disliked.

Some of the maps that particularly stood out in the comment section include Scud, Babylon, and Rewind. One of the X users, in fact, wanted to remove Scud from the title completely at launch. A few users, on the other hand, disliked the map Rewind going as far as to call it "the worst map Treyarch has ever hit us with".

Babylon too has its fair share of complaints. Some users claimed that the spawns on the map are some of the worst that they have experienced in any Call of Duty beta so far.

While the maps are certainly one of the most disliked aspects of Black Ops 6 Beta, not all comments regarding them were harsh. A fan @ARueda21 commented:

"I hope some of the other maps that weren't part of the beta are more refined...other than that, the beta was an awesome time. The gameplay felt like butter, the SBMM was on point, the servers were actually under control".

Although not a fan of the maps, they appeared to be optimistic about the maps that weren't showcased in the beta, wishing that they were "more refined". They concluded their comment by stating that they had a fun time with the Black Ops 6 Beta and had no other complaints apart from the maps.

Call of Duty fans voice their frustration with Black Ops 6 maps

The Black Ops 6 Beta has just ended and fans aren't happy with the maps. Players got to play on eight brand-new maps in the beta. However, except for a map or two, fans despised all the other maps in the game. Based on their reactions, it seems that the size of the maps remains a major concern for most fans, which is followed by the abysmal state of spawns.

While the entire discussion revolved around the poor map design in general, a few players pointed some maps to be the worst among the bunch. These maps include Rewind, Babylon, and Scud. While Rewind and Scud could be termed as mid-size maps, Babylon is extremely small, and spawns on this map remain a concern for many.

However, there were only eight maps in the beta and more will be available in the game when it is finally released. Some fans are hopeful that the final release of Black Ops 6 on October 25, 2024, will bring in a varied set of maps that are not plagued with design issues or poor spawns.
