"They knew exactly what they were doing": Internet lashes out at Activision for shutting down MW2 mod H2M

The Call of Duty MW2 mod H2M was shut down just one day before release and the Call of Duty community lashed back at Activision when the publishers played a horrible bait game to increase their sales. It all started with the introduction of the MW2 mod H2M which required players to own a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered, which conveniently went on sale at the same time. However, just one day before its release, Activision decided to enforce a cease and desist order which left the community baffled.

The Call of Duty MW2 mod H2M was the reason many players even considered buying the game, and now they were left furious at Activision’s decision. Popular journalist, Jake Lucky, decided to address the issue on X, and the community reacted with spite and disappointment alike.

User Giblet Head aptly said on X that they knew what they were doing but sadly, they would continue to do so without hesitation. He commented:

"They knew exactly what they were doing. Unfortunately, this will not affect them. They will continue f**king people over until it ends up going too far and the government has to step in."

A user, @hobshytv replied that this was the reason Activision was one of the most hated publishers in the industry. He said:

"And they wonder why they are one of the most hated publishers/devs in the industry."

It was quite evident to the community that Activision had baited them into buying an old version of the game.

Many of the players even decided to refund the game, and user @ScaredOfLockers thought they should avoid buying the upcoming Call of Duty Black Ops 6 as well and boycott the company.

The entire community was united in replying that this was pretty common behavior from Activision as they only care about money and not their fan base. ThoseGreenGuys even pointed out that this was probably just them promoting their upcoming release. He replied:

"Probably because the new Call of Duty is coming out soon and they want EVERYONE to only play that and nothing else lol. It’s all about money. They do not care for their fan base."

Finally, Spookz pointed out how this was just corporate greed, and that it was not justified to destroy their reputation for a few hundred dollars.

What is the Call of Duty MW2 mod H2M?

The Call of Duty MW2 mod H2M is essentially a Modern Warfare 2 mod for Modern Warfare Remastered. It lets you enjoy the good old MW2 (2009) maps but with better graphics. Along with that, it also featured the classic weapon attachments and original killstreaks from MW2. Additionally, players got access to the OG camo skins but with better visuals this time.

Needless to say, the community was really looking forward to some nostalgia as they waited for the upcoming Black Ops 6, but Activision’s decision to earn a few extra dollars left their hopes shattered.
