2007's popular and iconic Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was re-released with a graphically enhanced Remastered Campaign and Multiplayer in 2017. However, its status as a beloved title wasn't enough to prevent it from being review bombed after the H2M mod was taken down.

As of this writing, Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam has been review bombed by almost 2,000 users.

Call of Duty players on Steam are clearly very upset about Activision's decision to take down the H2M extension, which had been developed to allow gamers to play 2009's Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer with better visuals using Modern Warfare Remastered graphics.

According to several reviews, like the one featured in the image above, Activision put Modern Warfare Remastered on sale recently, aware of H2M's launch. Thus, the game climbed up the Steam charts and dominated the top-sellers list. It became the fourth best-selling game on Steam ahead of the mod's anticipated release.

However, after making record sales for the game via Steam, the publisher took down the extension for no apparent reason. The add-on required the base game of Call of Duty Modern Warfare Remastered through a purchase on Steam; this meant more earnings for Activision. But the publisher shut down the mod before it could take off, according to the user review featured above.

Perhaps, the H2M mod would've influenced the community to return to 2009's highly popular Multiplayer experience of classic Modern Warfare 2, which the publisher might not have wanted. This must be why OG MW2's Multiplayer wasn't remastered in the first place, while its Campaign made a return in 2020.

Right now, Modern Warfare Remastered is facing the wrath of fans on Steam as a result of Activision's decision. It will be intriguing to see how much longer the game is review-bombed on the digital storefront.
