The Kar98K in Warzone has been subjected to multiple nerfs in less than a month since the weapon was introduced to the game. This led to many in the community discussing whether the nerfs were justified, considering it was a fan favorite when the weapon dropped. Recently, @WarzoneAlerts took to X to ask fans about their thoughts on the recent nerfs.

The post stated:

"The Kar98k got NERFED again in Warzone. W or L?"

@WarzoneAlerts asked the Warzone community what they thought of the July 2, 2024 patch that nerfed the Kar98K. The post was accompanied by a picture that showcased the nerfs, which mostly relate to its damage profile, making it a more challenging weapon to use in the game.

Soon, fans joined the thread and decided to share their two cents on the issue. A fan who goes by @BurnleySniper commented:

"Nerfing it wont change now it needs straight up banning from Resurgence as its spoiling the game, big map yea all for snipers but Resurgence is a small map and ita the only gun every one is using there's no gun fights just straight up snipers everywhere".

They believe that Sniper Rifles or Marksman Rifles such as the Kar98K have no place in the small Resurgence map and instead should only be accessible on the bigger maps in the game such as Urzikstan.

Similar opinions were shared by others in the thread. @patternrecogniz stated:

"How does this change me getting one shot sniped"

They believe the nerf didn't do much to affect the weapon in any way. The damage profile changes were simply not enough and despite the recent tweaks, the rifle is capable of taking down enemies with one shot to the head. Although in the recent patch, the Kar98K's damage multipliers were tweaked, no changes were made to its headshot multiplier.

Hence, although it will now deal less damage to other parts of the body, it will still kill an enemy with one shot to the head, which is similar to the pre-patch capacity.

As the complaints about the nerf subsided, comments asking to buff the Kar98K took center stage.

According to them, nerfing every weapon isn't the solution to arrive at a balanced pick rate for all classes of weapons. Apparently, they rarely see any weapons getting buffed in the game. Although @ChrisBy17651485 didn't believe the weapon needed a buff pre-patch, they are of the opinion that Call of Duty should just stop nerfing weapons in the shooter.

@Isivak26, however, wanted the developers to buff the rifle so that it could one-shot knock unarmored enemies at longer ranges, which was possible before the patch.

All that said, not everyone disliked the nerf. A few community members came out in support of it and believed that it was the right move.

According to them, the nerf wasn't meta-altering in any way. They mentioned that the entire point of Kar98K is getting those headshots, which results in the one-shot kills. All of them pointed out that the nerf wasn't an issue at all and all players must do is be more accurate with the weapon.

Since the update didn't alter the headshot multiplier, the weapon still behaves pre-nerf when it comes to headshots.

Call of Duty fans discuss recent Kar98K nerf in Warzone

Kar98K was added to Warzone with the Season 4 update. Only halfway into the season, the weapon has seen two major nerfs. The first patch decreased the bullet velocity and damage range of the rifle, and the second patch, which dropped on July 2, 2024, altered its damage profile, making it deal less damage when it hit the arms, lower torso, and legs.

Since it is one of the most popular weapons in the game, its nerf did make it to the headlines. However, not everyone was on board with each others' opinions and everyone had their two cents to share on the changes.

While some believed that the nerf was pointless, others believed that it was indeed needed as it would only be lethal in the hands of those who are accurate in the game, thus creating a skill gap and maintaining competitiveness.
