Warzone has been integrated with Black Ops 6, marking the start of its initial season. However, Steam users are encountering a voice chat bug where enabling Proximity Chat significantly lowers FPS. This issue affects players whose voice chat settings are open to all, causing severe FPS drops regardless of tweaks to graphical settings, even at the lowest levels.

Many users may not be unaware of this bug and are left frustrated as their performance issues persist despite adjustments. In this article, we dive deeper into the voice chat bug and analyze its impact on gameplay.

The voice chat bug in Warzone after Black Ops 6 integration explored

The voice chat bug in Warzone causes a significant FPS drop, ranging from 50 to 100 frames per second — a substantial loss, especially in a battle royale game where high frame rates are crucial for an optimal experience.

For instance, if your display supports 144Hz and your FPS exceeds 144, the gameplay feels smooth and optimal. However, when the FPS drops to around 80, the difference becomes highly noticeable and impacts the overall gaming experience.

The bug specifically triggers when using Proximity Chat with the Game Voice Channel set to All Lobby.

Simply enabling Proximity Chat alone doesn’t cause the issue, but selecting All Lobby immediately results in an FPS drop. Many players use this setting for added entertainment, as it allows interaction with others, including enemies, within a specific radius. This feature often leads to humorous, taunting, or memorable interactions, such as joking with opponents or reacting to surprise encounters.

In my testing, my average FPS in Warzone is 140–150 with Normal quality settings and a display resolution of 2560x1440. However, switching to All Lobby Voice Chat causes my FPS to drop to 80–90. Lowering graphics settings to the lowest possible and reducing the resolution to 1920x1080 only slightly improved performance by 5-10 FPS.

This 60-frame drop is substantial and can severely impact gameplay, as high FPS is critical for winning gunfights and enjoying the game.

The developers are actively addressing glitches and bugs, so we can expect this issue to be acknowledged and patched in the near future. Until then, it’s highly recommended to set the Game Voice Channel to Party Only or Friends Only and avoid using the All Lobby option entirely.
