With Black Ops 6 just around the corner, CoD fans took a look back at Blackout, comparing it with Warzone. They deemed the former to be the better battle royale shooter, requesting a sequel of the mode to be released with Black Ops 6. A fan took to Reddit to share their thoughts on the possibility of a sequel of the original BR map with the release of Black Ops 6.

u/cruszo took to Reddit with a post titled Blackout 2, where they mentioned:

"Do you think there is a chance that Treyarch will develop a Blackout 2? I wonder if Activision would allow another Battle Royale title to be released alongside Warzone. I would find it awesome. I think Blackout was better than Warzone anyway. I saw leaked gameplay footage of a Blackout 2 that was in development during cold war but never released.I thought this map was really nice!!!"

They started by asking the Call of Duty community about the possibility of Blackout 2, wondering if Activision would allow two battle royale titles to be live at the same time. They said they would personally love for that to happen and mentioned that it was better than Warzone.

In the post, they also brought up previous gameplay leaks that suggest that a sequel was in development and was supposed to be released with Black Ops Cold War. However, it never saw the light of day.

With their questions and thoughts posted, fellow Redditors and fans of Call of Duty quickly joined the thread and shared their two cents.

A fan who goes by the username u/One-Happy-Gamer commented,

"As long as it's gameplay and mechanics are the same as the original Blackout, I'll be happy."

Their opinions were also in line with the OP and they stated that they would love to see a Blackout sequel with Black Ops 6 as long as the gameplay and mechanics were like the original game.

Another user, u/WallaWalla1513, also stated that they would love to see a sequel but they were skeptical about it.

"Would I love it if Blackout came back? Yes. But much of the community would lose their sh*t if they couldn’t get their loadouts like 2 minutes into the game. Just look at the backlash to early WZ2.0. Ain’t happening."

u/WallaWalla1513 said they, too, would appreciate the return of the original battle royale mode. However, they raised a concern with the game's community. They stated that most players would not love the game as they won't be able to equip their loadout right into it, which is the gameplay loop in the original Call of Duty battle royale game. They cited that the developers tried to do something similar in Warzone 2, but it was widely despised.

Other fans in favor of a sequel with Black Ops 6 also commented and shared the same skepticism as u/WallaWalla1513.

They pointed out that although they would love to see a sequel with the release of Black Ops 6, it wasn't happening any time soon. Call of Duty has been making a lot of money off of Warzone and bringing in a few Battle Royale games would separate the player base, resulting in fewer players per shooter.

Call of Duty has nailed microtransactions with Warzone and has been making a lot of money off of it. However, implementing such microtransactions with Treyarch's battle royale shooter won't be possible due to the nature of the game, which leans toward barebones gameplay and where microtransactions won't play a major role as there are no Blueprints or other cosmetic aspects to go with.

Hence, from a financial standpoint, it wouldn't make sense for the developers to release a sequel to Treyarch's original battle royale title with Black Ops 6.

Finally, they added a solution to the problem, which is bringing the Blackout map to Warzone with the barebones experience the original battle royale title delivered.

The entire Reddit conversion was summed up perfectly by u/attackhamster42, who said,

"As much as I would absolutely love that, I don't really see that happening. Warzone has too much name recognition now for them to jeopardize splitting the player base. It's their cash cow, after all. That said, I wouldn't put it past them to try and take advantage of the nostalgia factor that comes with Blackout in some way. Warzone: Blackout, maybe? Some kind of LTM? Who knows, they're keeping quiet about Warzone in general regarding Black Ops 6 so I guess we'll just have to wait and see."

They too would love to see a sequel with Black Ops 6 but with how the situation is with Warzone, it simply isn't possible. They mentioned that the developers won't be giving up on a title that's working, has developed a name for itself in the market, and makes them a lot of money as others have already pointed out.

They also added that a Blackout mode being added to Warzone could work as it would be nostalgic for many veteran fans of the series. Finally, they add that nothing much has been revealed about WZ with Black Ops 6 and fans will have to wait for more intel drops soon.

Call of Duty fans want Blackout 2 to be released along with Black Ops 6

Call of Duty fans on Reddit extensively discussed the possibility of Blackout 2 being released with Black Ops 6. Many claimed that they would love to go back to the barebones battle royale experience that was available in the original battle royale mode. However, they came to the conclusion that it wasn't possible with Warzone being the face for Call of Duty's battle royale.

For those who are new to the series, Call of Duty's first entry into the battle royale genre was not with Warzone. In fact, it was with the Blackout mode in Black Ops 4 back in 2018. But the game was quite different than WZ.

The gameplay loop was more in line with the traditional battle royale games where players fought with what they could find instead of using their prebuilt loadouts. It was more hardcore and closely resembled popular battle royale games back in the day, such as PUBG.
