Among the 23 titles, Modern Warfare 2 (2009) stands out as the best. The original Modern Warfare series marked a turning point for the franchise. Despite several ups and downs, Call of Duty has retained its fame.

Campaign

Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (2007) and has several factors that make gamers love its campaign. It features betrayals, controversial moments, intense gunfights, strong characters, and one of the most emotional stories in the franchise.

The game introduces the best antagonist of the franchise, Makarov, the mastermind of the Russian ultranationalist group that planned a terrorist attack against the United States. Task Force 141 is assigned to put an end to this threat. Although the main antagonist of MW2 (2009) is General Shepherd, his betrayal marks a key moment in the story.

Characters like Ghost, Captain John Price, and Soap MacTavish became very famous as the plot developed.

MW2 also featured one of the most controversial video game missions ever, "No Russian," which involves Makarov and his men massacring innocent lives at a Russian airport. It also has an incredibly emotional mission, Loose Ends, where General Shepherd betrays his allies and kills Ghost and Roach, marking a tragic and memorable turn in the game.

Multiplayer

Modern Warfare 2 (2009) offered one of the best multiplayer experiences, introducing customizable Killstreaks, innovative game modes, well-balanced maps, and a comprehensive progression system.

The multiplayer gameplay was memorable, featuring extensive weapon customization options, fast-paced action, and a variety of well-designed maps that became fan favorites, such as Rust, Terminal, and Highrise. These maps were so popular that they were integrated into the recent titles.

Modern Warfare 2 included a deep player progression system, allowing players to earn experience points to level up and unlock new weapons, attachments, and more. Additionally, the Prestige system provided players with exclusive emblems, Player Cards, and Titles, granting them bragging rights.

Modern Warfare 2 (2009) offered impressive graphics and sound quality, which were highly realistic and appreciated for its time. The game was also well-optimized, providing an enhanced gaming experience.
