Call of Duty has spawned a sprawling franchise of over twenty games in about two decades of existence. Naturally, there are games that players adore and then there are those that just did not do too well. If asked what game may be the worst, CoD veterans may come up with a few answers, and perhaps, the most common one would be none other than Vanguard.
That's because Call of Duty Vanguard is perhaps the most hated game in the franchise. While not necessarily the worst game out there, it is perhaps the most disliked for a plethora of reasons. This article will explain why.

Call of Duty Vanguard: The Zombies experience
Call of Duty Vanguard had one of the most underwhelming Zombies experience of all titles in the franchise. Initially, the game only came out with one map, which was not nearly entertaining enough. Furthermore, it was plagued with features that made it almost completely unrewarding to play the mode.
Buying weapons off a wall was no longer a feature. Instead, players were forced to pick up guns from a mystery box or have one at random. That may not even be the worst part of it all. Upon release and for quite some time afterward, the mode did not have round-based gameplay or progression. One would have to complete various objectives that would repeat themselves indefinitely.
On top of this, the mode had no bosses. So there was no big-bad monster you could crush for the sake of the challenge. Finally, a new perk system that proved repetitive and boring made the Call of Duty: Vanguard Zombies mode just not a lot of fun to play.
Bland campaign
Call of Duty Vanguard took players back to the WWII setting. Unfortunately, the campaign was rather short and also felt uninspiring. The characters weren't plotted out well, there was a lot of exposition, and the storyline just didn't hit the right notes with the players.
Players would spend a lot of time looking at characters speak about their pasts, which could have been fun to play out but just felt underwhelming. Overall, the campaign, while not really terrible, provided players with nothing new. It was lackluster at best and unattractive at worst. Characters and dialogues were bland enough for players to not be invested at all and perhaps, that drove them away from the game, too.
The Multiplayer experience
The care package in Call of Duty: Vanguard used to land out of nowhere and it would take a significantly long time to redeem it. But that's a minor issue compared to the fast-paced action in the Multiplayer mode. It's one thing to be fast, another to be so fast you can barely think at all.
Vanguard got the movement wrong, like multiple other games in the franchise. Small maps and sprinting movement gave teams little time to strategize and execute game plans. Furthermore, weapons have 10 attachments each, which could create a large gap between those who have attachments and those who do not.
Overall, the game did not seem like an improvement over its predecessors. If anything, it just made things worse for the franchise. No wonder why it isn't one of the best-selling Call of Duty games out there. Players could debate what is the worst game in the franchise but as of now, it would seem that Vanguard takes the spot.
