The launch of Season 4 Reloaded Update is marked with the addition of a brand-new Mutation mode in MW3. During the Altered Strain Event, operators are infected with modified DNA strands, resulting in new challenges in the mutated battlefield. The Mutation mode in MW3 pits a squad of humans against a group of mutants across a Mosh Pit instead of a standard game mode.
This limited-timed mode debuted in the multiplayer playlist on June 26, 2024, with the new update. This article provides an overview of the Mutation mode in MW3 and its components.
Mutation mode in MW3 explained
The Mutation mode in MW3 has changed how standard multiplayer is played, bringing the mutant theme to the standard multiplayer. It consists of two factions: humans and mutants.
The human faction features regular operators. This team has no other special visual detail and is covered in player-chosen skins, carrying the usual loadouts and weapon blueprints. Players in this faction are granted excessive ammunition reserves to take on enemy mutants.

The mutant faction comprises mutants who possess a series of special abilities that make them different from human operators and zombies. Their kit features abilities that can stun, disorient, and eliminate enemy humans. They can also command other non-player-controlled mutants who will assist them in combat.
Both teams fight using their weapons and special abilities, depending on their faction. Teams switch factions at halftime where humans become mutants and mutants become humans. The team with the highest score wins the game in Mutation mode in MW3.
