Mayors Chess Cup: GM Alexei Aleksandrov of Belarus (2606) returns to Mumbai this week to defend his title from June 7 at what is going to be India’s highest-ever prize money tournament. He is also going to be the top seed at the event. India’s GM B Adhiban (2555) is the top seed among Indian players at the event.
The fifth edition of the Mayors Chess Cup will include strong Grandmasters from at least 10 countries for a total prize money of just about $30,000 (Rs 15,25,000). The first prize is just about $6,000. The list includes 17 Granmasters and 35 International Masters from Indonesia, Bangladesh, USA, Ukraine, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Hungary, Belarus, Russia, Philippines and Kazakhstan.
