Morozevich Wins Tal Chess Memorial Blitz Draw Event

A unique blitz chess event has been introduced at the 7th Mikhail Tal Chess Memorial this year. The main tournament begins on June 8. However, on June 7, a special blitz chess tournament was organised to decide the first-round pairings. Alexander Morozevich won the blitz event with a nice 6.5 score beating Magnus Carlsen on tiebreak who earned the same number of points.

Alexander Grischuk and Teimour Radjabov were third and fourth with 5.5 points each. Levon Aronian and Hikaru Nakamura followed up with 5 points, Tomashevsky 3.5, Luke McShane 3, Vladimir Kramnik 2.5 and Fabiano Caruana 2 points.

The classical chess event at the 7th Mikhail Tal Chess Tournament 2012 starts on Friday and would be broadcast live from India time 4.30 pm via the official website of the Russian Chess Federation.
