The fourth game of the ongoing World Chess Championship 2024 between the reigning champion from China, Ding Liren, and Indian Grandmaster Gukesh D ended in a 42-move draw, leveling the scores at 2-2.

Moving into the details of Game 4, the Chinese Grandmaster started with the Zukertort opening, named after Johannes Zukertort, putting young Gukesh in a tough situation. After 11 moves into the game, Liren spent a lot of time on the clock, using up 16 more minutes compared to Gukesh.

For the 13th move, Gukesh, who was with black pieces, spent almost 30 minutes, leveling the clock for the duo. Eventually, with the game heading into a Rook endgame, Liren and Gukesh had to settle for a draw, splitting the honors at 2-2.

Notably, the duo came back into this game after their first rest day. Earlier in Game 3, Gukesh managed to level scores at 1.5-1.5 with an impressive victory.

It’s worth noting that there will be a total of 14 games in the ongoing World Chess Championship with the first player reaching 7.5 points to be crowned as the World Champion. If the campaign ends in a tie after all 14 games, a tiebreaker will be held to decide the winner.

Each game will have a time control of 120 minutes for the first 40 moves, followed by 30 minutes for the remainder of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 41.
