The much awaited World Chess Championship match between veteran Viswanathan Anand and World Champion Magnus Carlsen will be held at Sochi, Russia from 7th November to 28th November this year.
The schedule for the match was announced by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, president of the international chess association FIDE, who also stated that the budget for the event was set at $3 million. Both the players have agreed to the given match date and venue, which is the Olympic Village.
Russian Chess Federation president Andrei Filatov confirmed that his organization would participate in hosting the event.
Magnus Carlsen was crowned champion when the duo last met in Chennai in November 2013. Anand, who held the championship title from 2007-2013, earned this rematch when he won Candidates Tournament in Khanty-Mansiysk earlier this year.
Sochi recently hosted the Winter Olympics and they have now added another feather to their cap by winning the rights to host the World Chess Championship Match which will witness the world’s two best players lock horns with each other.
